Welcome to FACS or Art class
-
Classroom expectations for both FACS and Art: All students are expected to be productive during class and complete their work in a timely manner. Come to class on time and ready to learn! This is a fun class but without respect towards our peers, teachers and the classroom materials will cause disruption in the classroom and work enviroment. Remember to always do your best and be your best! Anything that disrupts the learning environment or is disrespectful behavior towards anyone or anything will not be tolerated. Lewis and Clark Middle School uses the BIST program (Behavior Intervention Support Team) which will be followed in this classroom. Behavior and Tardy policy can be found in the student handbook.
Middle school FACS and Art are graded courses and students must achieve a 60% for a passing grade. Assignments may be required to be turned in via Google Classroom or in-person. If an assignment is to be turned in via Google Classroom, the student must turn it in by the deadline posted on Google Classroom (exception -illness or absence). If homework is to be turned in in-person, the student is expected to hand in homework at the beginning of class. All students must turn in their own work.
Supplies that would be appreciated are clorex wipes and tissues.
Family and Consumer Science is not just sewing and cooking but learning useful real life skills that focus on the science and art of living/working well. Students will learn about issues that affect individuals, families and communities. During their 9 weeks in FACS, 6th graders will study Child Development/babysitting, Clothing Care & Hand Sewing, Personal Evaluation, and Nutrition & Cooking. 7th graders will continue with Goals & Values, Wants vs. Needs, Machine Sewing, and Nutrition & Cooking during their 9 weeks. 8th Graders will have FACS all semester and will learn about Families & Relationships, Personal Finance, Machine Sewing and Nutrition & Cooking. A supply list for sewing projects will be sent home and posted in Google Classroom before the anticipated sewing date. ALL sewing projects must be done at school in the family science room under the supervision of Mrs. Graves - students can’t take their projects home to finish them.
Art students in 6th grade will be immersed within art across the spectrum through the observation, evaluation, and evaluation of a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional works of art. Projects during their 9 weeks may include drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and fiber. For 7th graders, the elements and principles of design will be a primary area of focus as students illustrate, draw from observation, and creatively approach visual problem solving. Students will also demonstrate one-point perspective, identify and use color theory, and be able to critique and evaluate artwork. The 8th graders will meet daily for the entire semester to learn about art history, as well as art criticism, esthetics, and the production of various forms of art. Students will apply the elements and principles of art to create works that are aesthetically pleasing, draw from observation, use 1 and 2-point perspective, and have the ability to critique artwork. The mediums students will be using include printmaking, graphic arts, fibers, sculpture, painting, and drawing with different media.
Supplies needed for art class are 12 pack of pencils and 2 pink erasers, 2 fine tip sharpies, colored pencils and markers that will be left in the classroom.
