The visual arts classroom as a great place to have fun, and be creative while fostering inquiry and problem solving skills that help students to succeed beyond the classroom. Through establishing a visual literacy students are able to better interpret and evaluate the world around them.
6th Grade Course Description:
Students within the 6th grade Visual Arts will be immersed within art across the spectrum through the observation, evaluation, and creation of a variety of two dimensional and three dimensional works of art. Projects will include but may not be limited to drawing, painting, collage, printmaking, and fiber work.
Students are expected to be productive during class and complete their work in a timely manner.
Classes meet daily throughout the course of a 9 week term.
7th Grade Course Description:
Seventh grade students will work in an engaging environment in which they utilize the skills necessary for the production and evaluation of art. The elements and principles of design will be a primary area of focus as students illustrate, draw from observation, and creatively approach visual problem solving. Students will also demonstrate one-point perspective, identify and use color theory, and be able to critique and evaluate artwork.
Students are expected to be productive during class and complete their work in a timely manner.
Classes will meet daily throughout the course of a 9 week term.
8th Grade Course Description:
Eighth grade will include art history, as well as art criticism, aesthetics, and the production of various forms of art. A semester course, students will apply the elements and principles of art to create works that are aesthetically pleasing. Drawing from observation, utilization of 1 and 2-point perspective, and the ability to critique and evaluate artwork will be areas of focus. The various media students will be using will include printmaking, graphic arts, fibers, sculpture, and drawing media.
Students are expected to be productive during class and compete their work in a timely manner.
6th/7th Grade FACS Course Description:
Students in 6th and 7th grade FACS classes will primarily learn about life skills and how to be successful as an individual. Things that we will study include nutrition, cooking, goal setting, successful habit formation, stages of life, and basic sewing techniques.
Students are expected to be productive during class and complete their work in a timely manner.
Classes will meet daily throughout the course of a 9 week term.
6th Grade Computers Course Description:
Students within the computers classroom will focus on technology based learning skills that will help them throughout their time at Thomas Jefferson, and in the future. Students will learn basic typing skills and work towards developing speed and accuracy as they type. They will also learn how to utilize various applications that will allow them to utilize spreadsheets, write correspondance, and create presentations. Basic computer coding will also be introduced so that students will get a fundamental understanding of computer coding.
All Courses: Because our district is focusing on student literacy, there will be instruction given which integrates reading strategies as well as written assignments.
The courses listed above are all graded courses and students’ must achieve a 60% for a passing grade.
Student Expectations: Come to class on time ready to get started Listen and follow directions, and always be safe! Be courteous and respectful to adults, peers and materials in the art classroom. Always do your best. *Students will sit in assigned seats. Anything that disrupts from the learning environment of the classroom or any hurtful language or behavior will not be tolerated. BIST (Behavior Intervention Support Team) procedures will be followed. Behavior and Tardy policy can be found in the student handbook.
