Mrs. Melody A. Tyree

Hello!  Thank you for visiting my page!  Married in 2012 to Paul Tyree, my husband and I have 5 great kids and 10 grandchildren between us.  We are a military family with both my husband and my father being retired Air Force, one son being active duty Air Force, 1 daughter medically retired,  2 active duty son-in-laws, and 1 son who is an Army veteran.

After receiving my Bachelor's Degree in December 2009, my first teaching position was through State Fair Community College in Sedalia, MO teaching Basic Mathematics and tutoring for the TRiO program beginning in January of 2011.  That fall, Smithton R-VI school district hired me as a math teacher and there I taught everything from Algebra, Geometry, 7th and 8th-grade math, and Algebra Concepts A and B as well as developed a College and Career Readiness Class for our seniors to help prepare them for life beyond high school.  Also, as head of the department, I was tasked with creating an ACT Bootcamp which tailored instruction and help to our sophomores, juniors, and seniors who were readying themselves to take the ACT and ASVAB exams.

Completing my Master's Degree through Central Methodist University in the area of Teacher Leadership and Math Pedagogy, my master's thesis dove into the idea of finding a correlation between major political and economic events in history from the birth of our nation and major events in education during this same time period.  This research fostered a love of history and mathematics curriculum development!

On a lighter note:  My hobbies include gardening and canning, kayaking, UTV riding, sewing, painting, traveling (with children in 4 different time zones, this is a must), true-crime podcasts, and dogs.....I LOVE dogs.  Peanut Puppy is my furbaby (a Jack Russel terrier/border collie mix and a rescue pup) and I'm currently writing a series of children's books, The Adventures of Peanut Puppy, based on her and the lessons learned from her.  Two books have already been published and number three is in the works. (Yes, there is truly a lot to be learned from dogs!)

Transitioning to Thomas Jefferson Middle School in the fall of 2019, I have held the position of 8th-grade Synergy math teacher ever since.  My husband and I moved to the Jefferson City area at that time, and we have greatly enjoyed being a part of this fine community.

Though the last several years have been challenging with COVID, and all the repercussions we have felt since, I stand in awe of how the district, and especially Thomas Jefferson School adapt and work together to continue to provide quality education for our kids.  I'm excited for the 2024-25 school year and look forward to getting to know my students and parents.
