JCHS Library is open every day from 8:10-4:00. Students may come to the library with a pass from a teacher any time during the school day to check out a book or from 8:10-8:30 in the morning.
Students may check out up to five print books at a time, as well as five eBooks and/or audiobooks at a time, for a lending period of three weeks. If a student has an overdue or lost book, students may only check out eBooks, audiobooks, or literature-set books assigned for class until the print book(s) are returned. Student IDs are preferred for checkout; however, students must have some form of picture ID for checkout.
Students receive weekly emails when books become overdue, and students have 19 school days to turn in late books before fines begin. After 19 school days, fines for overdue books will start accruing beginning at $1.00 with $0.05 per day for each additional day with a maximum of $3.00 overdue fine per book.
Fines for lost and damaged materials will be assessed periodically throughout the year and applied to the student’s account. Books not turned in by the end of the year will be marked lost, and the purchase price of the book will be charged to the student's account. If a student finds a book that has been marked lost, the student may return the book and have the fine removed until the end of first quarter the following school year. An overdue fine will be assessed once the book is returned. After the end of the first quarter, the student is responsible for payment of the lost book regardless of whether it is found or not. Students who pay for a lost book will keep the book without a refund if the book is found after the fine has been paid.
