Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Nick Young

Hello, and welcome to my class!

I graduated from the University of Missouri in 2023 with my degree in Secondary Education. Prior to working at JCHS, I was a special education teacher for two years. I was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri until I moved and later graduated from Eldon High School.

When I'm not teaching, I like to spend time with my two cats, fish, and watch movies. I also watch every NFL game I can (GO CHIEFS!).

As your teacher, I am committed to giving you the best and smoothest learning experience possible. I look forward to sharing my passion for History with you.

How long have you been teaching? What classes do you teach?

This is my third year as a high school teacher. Prior to coming to JCHS, I taught special education within the social studies department at Eldon High School. This year, I am teaching American History and World History.

How would you describe your role at JCHS?

My primary goal as a teacher is to foster a safe and positive learning environment. In addition, I am also the NHS advisor.

Where are you from?

I was raised in St. Louis where I attended Mehlville High School. When I was 16, my family relocated to Eldon, Missouri where I graduated high school in 2019.

Did you do any extracurricular activities in high school?

I ran cross country and track for all four years in high school, and wrestled in my freshman and sophomore year. I was also a member of FCA during my time at Eldon.

What's your favorite thing about teaching?

I made the decision to pursue a career in teaching when I was seventeen years old. I was surrounded by many amazing teachers who helped me achieve many of my educational goals. I have always been passionate about current events, and enjoy relating the importance of history to the issues of today. I have always believed that having a foundational understanding of history is an important tool for being a well-rounded individual. Regardless of what path you take after high school, knowing how we got here today will always be important.

Do you have any pets?

I have two cats, Winston and Joey. Their favorite part of the day is when I leave them alone.

What is my favorite food?

I really enjoy trying new restaurants. My favorite place is Duke's On the Blvd for their burgers.

What do you do in your free time?

Since moving to Jefferson City, one of my favorite summer hobbies has been exploring new fishing spots in and around the city. If it's too hot to fish, I really enjoy finding a good movie to see at the movie theater. I will watch just about any movie and am always looking for new recommendations. I recently read "No Country for Old Men," which made seeing the movie again even more exciting.
